I seem to remember something about Tarcutta getting a museum to complement the drivers' memorial there?

Do like your idea, Swishman. The Hume is perhaps the most 'famous' of our highways surely?

I was thinking attached to a roadhouse on the Hume itself may be a good spot. Museums usually don't cover their expenses but a good food & fuel stop with the old trucks as an attraction might

Having lived through a pandemic I now understand all the painting of fat people on couches!

I reckon the closer to the Highway the better myself, and beside a roadhouse even better again.

How about beside the Avenal roadhouse. maybe on the other side of the road where you turn in from.
No idea who owns the land but there's no houses or other buildings on it and it would be easier buying /leasing land from a private entity than trying to convince the government to give something away for nothing. I can't see it being a big election vote winner for either party so they aren't going to jump on board in any hurry are they.

Just my thoughts.
Cheers. Cobba.

Just a thought, is it maybe worth seeing if the government or a local council has a big shed somewhere not being used? The shed being the expensive bit that requires funds. It's been done elsewhere, in Darwin the auto club has the QANTAS hanger at Parap with plenty of trucks and machinery in it, and on the New England in NSW there's another one at Inverell or somewhere around there. I've seen a few local museums in old Butter factories etc as well. It's not uncommon to drive through a town and spot a huge shed that used to be a meatworks or some other enterprise that beauracratic pals have decided it's not worth supporting and let it close. Then the local council ends up sometimes with it on thier hands.

The story of the Inverell Transport Museum is interesting; Council was sucked into building a large factory/shed for a mob that was going to pack lollies and employ heaps of people (this was while the abbatoir was in Americam hands and not doing well). The deal did not eventuate and they were left with an empty building, complete with it's own road, parking etc. Local motor enthusiasts saw the opportunity and formed a museum trust. The deal is; instead of your pride & joy gathering dust in the garage or sulking in the open you become a member and get controlled climate storage for free. Was no loss to council to give it a go as there were no other takers. Upshot is every motoring club includes Inverell on the itinery and Motels are very happy thankyou. There is now a business about to move into the factory but the Museum has proven its worth and council built TWO new sheds for them, one including a mechanical workshop, next door.
