Two more. This time a bit smaller, and with pedal assistance. I have seen people pedalling these, but a bit lazily. Perhaps that is for starting assistance? Perhaps the small ones really are gutless, and always need boosting (or they really are pedal, with just a small amount of electric boost)? Perhaps the pedalling is simply a muscle-stretch excercise to avoid deep-vein thrombosis? Or the pedal really is the emergency to get home when the battery is exhausted.

Both were taken in Hami, on Sun.25.9.11. One is set up for passengers; the other is set up as a truck.

Here are three of the smallest: pedal, designed to fit into the narrow streets of a traditional Beijing hutong.
Such zones have become quite rare, but a few are now protected. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hutong

These three were taken on Wed.28.9.11: two of rubbish trucks, and one showing the delivery of beverages to cafes, and furniture.

#4 is a Mitsubishi-GO 3-wheeler, produced between August 1956 and December 1958. There were 5652 of them produced .. 19 were imported to California in 1959, and this is the sole survivor of those 19 units imported.

I started googling, and came to this excellent site with three-wheel links:
www.3wheelers.com/linksip.html

Re 2, the number plates looked UK, but the vehicles don't.
I have memories of seeing vehicles like that in Poland.
The sign is unclear, but I suspect Germany.

The lhs vehicle could have been a Skoda: but that is a Czech manufacturer, and Skoda isn't on the list at the site above.

I couldn't verify/refute my guess re NSU for 3, as that link delivers a blank green page.
