Hi,

I sent a link to the picture to a recently retired long time Mars manager and he came back with....

I would say 1976 or 1977.
As I recall, Mars bars were imported from the UK for around 2-3 years in the mid 1970's prior to the commencement of production in the new Ballarat factory (in 1978 I think).

For many years Mars bars were manufactured in Australia by Cadbury under licence!!!!! The licence ran out about 1975. Mars commenced importing and building a factory.

180726Th Metro Twitter - Flinders St, 1954.
The bus is M&MTB AEC Regal Mk III 440. I vote for the rear ute being a Morris 8. The leading Austin is a 1952-54 A40 Somerset.

Roderick.

Ha ha Lang re the burnouts.
Yes,I know where you're coming from-burnouts and any Austin/Morris?
More like the never ending pall of blue smoke that I remember (almost) all of them spewing out.
But it does look impressive
Cheers

Last night I stumbled onto this Site www.flickr.com/groups/1553597@N21/pool/page1 which has hundreds, no thousands, of old car and truck photos.

May be of interest to someone and would certainly fill in quite a few idle hours.

Another stunning streetscape. I didn't have the heart to crop to just the vehicles, or just the truck.
It comes after Sept.1920, when Harold Clapp became Victorian Railways Chairman of Commissioners. He espoused Victorian products and tourism with passion, and established fruit and juice (squeezed while you watched) stalls at Flinders St station.
It comes before Dec.1925, when conversion of the cable-tram route south from here to electric operation was completed. Conversion to the north came in Jan.1926.
This is just one photo from an article and set at < prov.vic.gov.au/about-us/our-blog/eat-more-fruit >
