I went back to flickr, and narrowed the field to 'Australia Ambulance'.
It still didn't tell me how many would be appearing, and scrolled interminably. From about 20 min, it was finding ones found earlier.
I abandoned the hunt at 40 min.

Here are three interesting ones:

Ambulance train, middle east, WWI

I am liking flickr less and less with each use.
I am coping, by reducing my postings and deleting all old ones.

Here are three more ambulance views:

I'll stick to just to hunting for links. That bicycle one isn't the one which I found, which was 1904 and carrying 'Ambulance' signs.

Here are four oldies (pre WWII):

Unidentified Newcastle 1920s, the city's first, at an unidentified petrol station

Bowen Qld 1925 Dodge

1917 Ford T, preserved in WA

1938 Dodge, preserved at Temora (NSW)

When I started this thread, I had no idea of the wide scope which it would incorporate. I have learned a lot along the way.

I narrowed the field in flickr.
Searching on Queensland Ambulance brought up 84 photos in one set, by poster 'sv1ambo': a size which can be managed on the cumbersome lightbox view. Some have been repeated earlier in this thread.
Most are in the preservation era, and only a couple have appeared in this hcvc thread before.
I see: a Studebaker, various models of Holden and Falcon, a Valiant, a Ford F80 or F100 (and a more-recent model), Fairlane, light truck, minibus, a rail ambulance, Hudson Terraplane.

Bumping this to the top... The below was used by the Jerusalem red Davidshield service and was bought by one of my uncles, who had quite a few cars at the time. Unfortunately he never told us about it and sold it to a couple of young lads who had no funds or knowledge to do it up and who in their turn sold it to the current owner. This is what it looked like when he got it:

I'm still cut up about this but at least the bloke did a proper restoration, and that's what it looks like now:
