Hey. Looking into getting a tilt tray for part time use when I’m off shift from work, also have someone who can operate it when I’m unavailable if I wanted it to be working. For those who have dabbled in them a bit what recommendations would you give and anything to keep clear of, certain trucks etc? I live rurally if that helps with your advice.
Will be MR and looking for container compatible. Deciding between 6 or 8m tray and load capacity of the truck. Would look to use it for general freight etc so as big as possible would be best in my mind but not sure if the 8m trays and larger bed height associated with higher load capacities makes them a touch less handy for smaller jobs. Tricky balance I guess.
Happy to hear your experience. Thanks.

If my memory serves me correctly, you cannot put a vehicle on it unless it has TT plates. (NSW).

Up to the present I help a mate out with 3 Hino tilt trays. All have 6 metre trays and if you are looking to do containers, I reckon you will need at least an 8 metre tray.
The two older Hinos, an FD and an FG, have 1.03 and 1.3 million ks respectively. Neither have had so much as the injectors touched. Both have had just 2 clutch replacements. The newer one is a 300 Series which was 4 years old last week and has 390,000 ks up without any problems, so for what it's worth, I can only recommend Hinos for doing a great, economical job.

Since finishing our latest trip around the place something I noticed was the amount of tilt trays carrying vehicles on the tray and a caravan on the tow bar. So it would be better to have that ability as well.
Love our old FC Hino which is going i n for his yearly medical in 2 weeks for rego.

Doesn't that only apply to smash recovery? Trade work is fine.If my memory serves me correctly, you cannot put a vehicle on it unless it has TT plates. (NSW).

This subject about NSW tow truck laws has been on here a few times
I have read all sorts of things, from not allowed a winch on a tray truck to trucks been confiscated
I dunno, if someone was inclined to look hard enough I'm sure the proper answers could be found
As for trucks Isuzu or Hino would be the go for me
Mazda seam to always have crook gear box issues
Good luck with what ever you decide
And study the legal side of it properly and find the actual written rules not word of mouth B.S.
