Nice work on Winter days, shovelling into the firebox, if ya can get it .. but I bet, in the middle of Summer it was better than a sauna in there .. :'(

Always smiled at the old Westrail laws for the engine drivers, about running low on water and melting the fusible plugs in the crown sheet of the firebox.

Got to dust off the maitainance manual
with the fire bans they got to put the steam
away and we have to get the diesels ready
Prob get some piccys of the engine bay this week

What a multifaceted thread, which slipped by me while I was in eastern Africa for 5 weeks, travelling behind Kenya EAR Garratt 5918 'Mt Gelai'.
I don't know about 6042, but progress on the restoration of 6029 can be tracked at

I was in WA for the Flying Scotsman visit, an photographed the part which had been manufactured by Willis Light Engineering. Now to search.
