Steam Engines was created by Mrsmackpaul
When I was a kid at Tech school another kid bought a steam engine kit, I reckon it had a bore of 3 inches or there abouts and came as set of rough castings
I have googled around a bit looking for this style of kit with no luck
Does anyone know if this style of thing is still around ????

thanks in advance

Paul

thanks for the info
The one I remember another kid building I reckon had something like a 3 inch bore and maybe like a 6 inch stroke or more
It was maybe a kit for a small steam engine rather than a model I really dont know as its was a long time ago now and my mind might be playing trucks on me

If you can weld and oxycut, making one from fabricated parts is the go.I made a biggie in the eighties,4.5 bore X 7 "stroke. All fabricated or truck parts.Crank was cut from a Dorman 3DL crank, piston and liner from Cat bits.(Cat liner was the toughest thing I have ever machined).Piston rod came from the local hydraulic place s scrap bin.Flywheel from an old stationary engine.Forked end of rod was std hyd ram bit.Cost virtually nil, except for angry customers wanting their work done. The problem nowadays with big engines is that you need a big boiler. Most states now have huge fines and jail time for operating,or even possessing unregistered boilers.Even model size have to be checked and registered.

Struth sounds like theres rules every where now I had heard about having boilers checked but sounds like the fun police may well have taken all the fun away today
Best sounds like I consign this to dream about doing pile again then

Thanks for replies every one
