Steamrollers was created by Roderick Smith
I can't find an existing thread, so I am starting a new one.
This steamroller was brought to Marlo by road to be part of a community event marking the commissioning of a replica PS Curlip on Snowy River. I photographed it at Marlo Hotel on Sat.29.11.08, then next morning it was at a display in Orbost: probably roaded again.
There will be a break in my posts: they come as I find them, and the next batch will have to be scanned from prints or slides not yet found. I am also spending a month in China.

Atkipete,
Yes I did see the post. And yes I know it well!
It is the french one I'm most likely to get the spelling wrong but it is a Alberet roller. Only two of them in Australia (that I know of). The other is in QLD.
A couple of interesting features on it. One is that it is single cylinder. Most rollers are compound. The other is that the regulator on most traction engines are leavers. This one has a wheel!
I think it also has similar wheels to the Cowley rollers in that the front and rear can be ballasted with water to increase weight also.
Both the aveling and the french one would have been out of use soon after the use of asphalt roads. As the heavy fly wheels would mean that they would have come to a stop when changing direction. Not quick reversing! This would have left a dip in the asphalt from the weight.

Oh and the guys that own it do have access to truck and trailer for moving it around so they do get around a lot!
So yes they were at the Mack Muster and attend a lot of events around the place. Must be one of the more traveled engines around!

Thanks for the great photo of PS Curlip.
It can cruise the Snowy not quite half way to Orbost: the river is now too silted. It can cruise the Brodribb, to the site of the sawmill which the original Curlip served, being developed as an interpretive centre.
I was going to put this photo in its own thread: it isn't commercial, but it is old. It was another of the vehicles which came to Marlo. Wooden boat owners arrived in force, and provided an escort fleet to the Saturday ceremony (in drizzling rain). On the Sunday, there was a special fundraising cruise. Since I had had the chance to ride on Saturday on the position move, I traded my ticket back so that someone on the waitlist could have the opportunity. I photographed from the bank, in great sunshine, with wattle in bloom.
I will get back to putting steamrollers (& dieselrollers) into this thread: I have them scattered through my collection. I also have several traction-engine photos.

Here are two views of M&MTB's road roller (its diesel, not steam), in use on relaying the throat of Malvern Depot, Glenferrie Rd (Melbourne). The scans were prepared and sized for a tram group. The second one has also gone to a theatre & cinema group.
