1943 FWD Truck was created by GM Diesel
Howdy All,

This is abit of a long shot but here go's
Ive bought a 1943 FWD HAR-1 Army truck. It was restored 15 odd years ago.
The engine is a Waukesha BZ-320 and as im starting to discover its abit of a rare beast.
There is a couple of others in Aus I believe.
They are full time four wheel drive with a live center diff which is pretty advanced for the forties. Transfer case is single speed 2-1 reduction so its slow as.
Parts for these engines are pretty well non existent so im after another engine or atleast a bottom end if anyone has seen a wreck anywhere that they think might be an FWD.
The engine goes okay but oil pressure is pretty low when its hot.
I dont have a picture of the one I bought yet but its the same as the one below. Get it home Friday.
Ive been told they assembled the Aus ones at the Vic Holden plant during the war.

G'day Basil,

Waukesha is still in biz as a part of the Dresser empire:

No idea whether they keep spares for the older stuff, but the chaps at the ATHS may be able to help, these engines having been used in other Yank iron over the years.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Howdy,

The Merv Brunt truck is a FWD I think also. Bit later model than mine.
Swishy, If I cant get any sense out of this Waukesha donk then yes the good 3-53T Jimmy I have might end up in there.
Perfect size for it.

You gotta be happy with that eh?Looks tidy,is that the origonal cab,or has it been remade?I`d love to get something that doesn`t involve paint and panel.

Cam, something that does not involve paint and panel would have to be a push bike... :'(

Sarge, that FWD looks fabulous mate, mind the K7 at the auction was pretty good too.If only I could find another Diamond T or Reo that didn`t need paint,I`d be giggling.I have got a collection of push bikes too mate,I pick them up at kerb side clean up,and I used to ride them between my 2 sheds, seeing as they are at oposite ends of the street.
