steering bump

I have a Bedford j1 series and every time it hits a bump in the road it wants to jump all over the place, just like a tractor. I am running rag tyres on it and all bushes and pins have been replaced as well as a wheel alignment,I can/t drive it more than 5-10mph, does anyone out there have any clues and good ideas as to what could be wrong.

By way of elimination how did it handle before the pins were done? Sounds like something is locked up and the springs are not working as they should. Was a manual at hand when the pins were redone.

I had/nt driven on the tared road until it was completed only test drove on the driveway.There was no manual used to alighn the king pins, they were done by an engineering firm, the springs have not been touched except to replace the centre leaf bolts, has new munroe shocks fitted, the same model as the originals.
The truck had sat on the new tyres for about 12 months without moving and had developed a flat spot that is slowly dissapearing.
The steering box has been overhauled.
Could I have put the front axle in the wrong way round?
There is no play in any of the nuckles or wheel bearings.
Tyre presures are 70psi.
Any help would be appreciated.

rustyb, I suggest taking It back to the Wheel alignment joint & getting them to check to Kingpin castor angle...
Did you replace/reset the Springs as well??

The springs have not been replaced and I will take it back to the wheel alighnment place to get the kamber/carstor looked at.

Couple of possibilities:
1. The springs have gone a bit soft, unevenly

2. Tyres could be out of round, or slightly different diameters.

Have had this problem on older trucks without shocks.

With the wedges have you got it in back to front When I was talking on the weekend .You said you only had one wedge I do not know why that would be. Only reason I can think of is if the axle had a twist You might be able to see by to resting two sort straight edges on top of the axle and looking through for wind
The other to check tie rod for end wear ( in manual ) I have replaced my drag link it looked fine but when I playing around with it it would lock up and I would have to work hard to get it to move .This might be a bit more food for thought ( by the way I am very keen about the washers I do not have your phone number you could send me it in a pm )

I'd also check wheel bearings are adjusted correctly.

check that the shocks are the right ones as the wrong length or stroke will make them bottom out or they will haveno travel in length cheers don
