Swishy - Britstand weren't South Oz trailers - they were based in Mascot in NSW .. and yes, I was tending to think towards Britstand .. but ya know where thinkin' gets ya, don't ya?? .. :D
The design of the float is very close to the Britstand, but it's not quite the same - the gussetting around the neck is more like the Freighter you pictured.

Get what you are saying about the registration office Sarge, I built a few little trailers years ago but would not go there again because of the grief getting the last one registered.
It is a concern to see the obvious lack of experience of most of their staff. About 400 years ago when I got my semi licence the female tester was still on car P plates. How can you test somebody for something you cant do yourself. ?

Time for a real dumb question.
The float coming up in the clearing sale...whats the go with changing tyres ?.
I gather the beam/plate thingo has to come off but what else is in there in the way of bearings etc.

The rims will come off once the plate is unbolted, they slip over the end of the axle and the bearing. The problems involved are - 1. large numbers of bolts and nuts .. and 2. no clearance to get in between the inner wheels. And of course, it's always 42

Thanks for that. I figured it wouldnt be easy.
After you have done this pain in the butt job a few times you would soon learn to run good tyres and check your pressures reguarly.
The old girl looks to be in reasonably good nick though.

Yeah, that ole float is in particularly good shape for its age. It obviously hasn't ever belonged to a 'dozing contractor .. ;D .. contractors overload them, screw up the deck and the side rails .. and run them with all bald tyres .. ;D .. then, when something breaks, they weld it up with chook-s**t welds, and then tack crappy pieces of fishplate on everywhere .. ;D

You blokes out to take a run out to some of those clearing sales in Western South Oz .. there's a huge heap of antique, and near-antique stuff coming up in those sales next month .. Beddys, Fords, Leylands, ACCO's, even a '69 MAN .. as well as horse-era stuff like a sulky and dray ..

Do a search here, using common truck names and other useful search terms such as "vintage", and you'll get a feast of old stuff you can drool over. Remote farms in low-rainfall areas, are where so much good stuff ends up ..
Check out the Model "O" Beddy .. the pic that ends with "091" in the URL .. :P
