Neat bit of gear there mate...
I would also go the steel floor....less drama in the long run.
I reckon you'd have the right Cummins powered unit to pull it too..

Steel is the way to go, especially if it is going to be left out in the weather, but only if you are prepared for quite a big job (as well as $$$). Design wise I would suggest putting down, say 35mm 3mm thick, RHS tube as runners lengthwise. By using more runners you can save by being able to use 2.5 mm chequerplate, other wise thicker plate would be reccommended. Cut out the bracing straps as the floor will make the trailer very rigid. On my Freighter the width worked out that I could bend the ends of the 2500mm sheets up a tad for a neat fit inside the I section outside rails and easily welded. To weld the floor to the runners the technique is to drill holes and tack from above, and then do a proper job once it is all held in place and safe from distortion. I can't weld overhead to save my life so tipped the trailer over instead!
The alternative design is to pack up the cross bearers but you run the risk of the floor taking on a ripple effect unless you only ever load pallets etc.
But I guess Cam will give us the correct industry technique.
