Don't think I'd fancy having a crash in one of them. Brings new definition to the "meat in a sandwich". :P :-[

There was one of those things running around Sydney for years
carting containers. Used to see it a lot. Colour red. I think with a
6V53 GM .He sure sat low to the ground......Mark

There is one in Townsville with a tilt tray on it,the only body truck I know of that you can get a 40' container on.I`ve got the blokes card at work with a pic on it,I`ll scan it when I get a chance. The mob who built it have gone broke, but thier web site still works,so I`ll try this link.

G'day Folks, I recall that years ago there was a car carrier working up and down the Hume that was a similar set-up. I have a feeling it was based on a bus chassis. I will get some more details from the old man as he knew the bloke that drove it. Ray.

The Colonia below is based on a 320 MAN - the cab body is a modified Pom/German Ford Granada s/w. They used to cart long steel constructions, hence the mod. Colonia is a big heavy transport and crane specialist in Cologne, Germany - I believe they've kept the MAN and take it to shows from time to time.

Colonia's site:

www.colonia-spezialfahrzeuge.de/index2.htm

Manfred Steinwinter has an internet site and might build you another if paid enough... The two built were Mercedes based I think.

Tatra of course, had a go:

Last but not least, the idea has been tried in Japan also (can't tell much about it, my Japanese is none too sharp):

Link (scroll down - there's a nice V8 UD engined fire truck in there also): bbs.avi.jp/bbs.php?num=35&kid=432856&mod...=no&s=&guid=ON&br=pc

Cheers,
