@ Roland:
I wonder whether Alsthom failed due to not having an efficient thermostaticly-controlled fan like M-D or Tatra? Power wise it was one on one with the M-D V8 of the same time...
@ Stradair:
One thing I never managed to find out - where were the French Macks produced? At the Bernard factory or somewhere else? I mean the ones with the Unic cabs, the R-Series with Pelpel cabs and the F700s...
Cheers,
T

One of the last Bernard, the TD 211 which had a END 711 Mack engine and a TRD 7 225 Mack gearbox, only the rear axle with hub reduction was built by Bernard.
The factory was in Arcueuil in the south Paris suburb.
There, they also assembled some Mack but any were also assembled by Pamax which was an importer.
The front cab was later the same as Unic but was sub contracted from Geneve which built cabs and tippers.

Oh yes - remember them, there were quite a few in Israel back in the 1950s and the 1960s. Always had a strong presence of the smaller French commercials (peugeot J series also) and many of the cars (they even had Renault Dauphines assembled in Israel), but no big French trucks until the 1970s (Renault (=Berliet)).
Oh, and Chausson buses
Cheers,

Yes, these we had too...
And here's a nez de Cochon on the road to Eilat sometime in the 1950s (yes I know, it's a bus )
later many received more powerfull Leyland 600 engines, SCG semi-automatic gearboxes, double tyres at the back and smaller (but more robust) windows:
One which was restored with correct Somua engine, which can be seen at the Egged museum in Holon, Israel.
All pictures are from the Egged site (only Hebrew):
