Thanks Hayseed. I think they are pretty expensive. Always been going to get the Air cti on the 4x4 truck which is meant to be pretty good. This hino doesn’t have air and is pretty old so I’ll just let them down by hand.

ProjectInter, definitely steel. Bought mine from ebay (bits4blokes), about $7 each, or much cheaper in multiples.

Mine are the Schrader brass ones about 4" (100mm) long and do the job well. You only need a pair for the inside rears only and no where else. AS mentioned these extensions do not hold air at all only have a long needle that pushes against the valve core on your tube. I have not used the braided ones but the poossible problem there is anchoring them from flailing about as you drive and see them flex and break.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationThey are almost give away price. Many different shapes and lengths on Ebay for a few dollars. I vote for them instead of stuffing around trying to get the stem off the rim to put the air fitting on or even reach the damn thing in the first place.

Alcoa recommend that you Do Not use metal valve extensions unless they have a support. They say to use plastic.
Check page 12 in this manual: www.alcoawheels.com/alcoawheels/australi...e_manual_english.pdf

I have plastic extensions on my 45 year old Alcoas.

Metal ones are fine on metal rims that run 8.25x16 tyre and tube.

I bought a set of metal ones from tyre shop. $10 each.
Went to fit them but I can’t even fit my hand in to take the valve cap off. I’ll take the wheels off and put them on.
Bloke at the tyre shop reckons plastic ones are okay but reckons if you drive a lot of dirt roads they’ll get smashed by a stone.

Thanks for all the replies.

From my failing memory I used a pair of long nose pliers to remove the valve caps. Then the standard valve was lying against the rim so with a long thin screw driver I was able to screw the extension on by hand then using that hex on the end of the extension where the valve cap will be fitted again I used a small shifter to tighten it up.
If you have a choice of valve caps only use metal ones as they have a seal inside to ensure no loss of air out passed them. Plastic ones are better than none.
