Think this bloke would have been kept busy steering the back end of this one manually

And the ones up on the front winding the handle of that manual hydraulic pump to raise or lower the bed when going over or under bridges

Looking at the number rivets, you'd think Kenworth made that float.

Thank you Grandad, is that one of the two One Hundred Tonners that Thornycroft made about 1908 or 1912?
I read that one of them only one trip, carrying a stone crusher to Scotland and when it got to the quarry, the trailer was left there as a base for the crusher. The Prime Movers or tractors or what ever you call them had four cylinder petrol motors that were soon replaced with more economical units.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Thanks, Grandad. That article is much more comprehensive than the
one I read at least fifty years ago. It shows a few faults in my memory. Where can I send my cheque for 475 or 4900 Punxsutawney and 50p for one of the originals, or even the scale model? :cheer:

I can see why Swishys new float is having so much trouble with the Vic Roads......he didnt use enough rivets in it.

Just for the record we are currently in Queensland moving a Transformer with 2 x 10 axle platforms supporting the load between the trailers in beams. The journey is from Collinsville to Dalby with detours due to our axle weights just under 1200 km and the rear 10 axle platform has to be steered for the entire journey.
At least the rear steer driver has a cabin to sit in withe full hydrostatic steering not qiyte as comfortable as the drivers in the Volvo's and Merc's but a lot better than what some guys did in the past including myself on far too many occasions.
