Another great topic.
Will try and get the old man to sit with me and type out some that he knows.
Must also get the scanner working and scan some of his photos.

Here is a couple, 1st pic two trucks from the same stable.
Bay City Trucks and (subby to) Puckapunyal Transport .
Photo from Dave Bartlett.
TW or Transwest or originally Trans West.
Still lives in one division as TW services or something similar that services the steel mills, Tankers name bought out and rolled into FBT I think.
Photo I can't remember who's but found on the net

here are some Tasmanian ones that many of you would not know. Holymans, Townsend Deliveries, Allalong, Tasmanian Searoads, Monashvale Transport, Jacksons......now if i go to the logging side of things i could be here all day....many small operators have come and gone although some still survive like Paddgett, Taslog, Wagner (now more into coal), Les Walkden. Some that have gone include Gundy Hammersley, Neville Wray, Arthur Claridge and all of his sons companies(Kevin,Barry,Nigel,Brian and others that i cant remember).....i better stop before my brain explodes

You might Laugh at me because I'm different, I laugh at you because you're all the same

The photo of the Trans West rig brings back memories. That is one of the rigs that carted Ammonium Nitrate into the Mt Whaleback Iron Ore mine (Newman) in the Pilbara for the ANFO on the mine. Must have been a really early photo as the dirt road was bitumen all the way to Newman by the end of the 1970s.
Back then the ANFO was railed to Dalwallinu then trucked to I believe Paynes Find (maybe further north) in doubles before being made up into the triple trailer rigs that are shown in the photo.
These days the triples can be assembled at Wubin with doubles able to drive up from Perth.
