Wrong Morris, it was a bark that was used.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

I thought I would get more replies to last week's saying but only V8Ian replied.
Yes, Captain Cook's ship was a Bark, usually spelled Barque. A sailing ship of three or more masts but the saying would not have scanned correctly.
He actually CIRCUMNAVIGATED (travelled around) the world not CIRCUMCISED (as in cut the foreskin off a male person or animal) but maybe you did not want to correct my intentional error in an effort to save me from looking ignorant?

I was onto your play on words, Morris. I thought the vessel was spelt "barque" but googled it, to be sure, to be sure. Google said it was spelt "bark", just goes to show, unlike Mrs. V, Google doesn't know everything.I thought I would get more replies to last week's saying but only V8Ian replied.

That's interesting V8Ian, Mrs Morris knows everything and she is an expert in everything I try to do around the house and when driving and navigating as well.

Morris and Ian, you both just confirmed publicly that you both married women. They are different but definitely all the same. Mine is not only an expert at everything but also a walking encyclopedia. I keep trying to convince her that the only other alleged perfect being to inhabit the earth was nailed up, so she should be careful.

A barque, barc, or bark is a type of sailing vessel with three or more masts having the fore- and mainmasts rigged square and only the mizzen (the aftmost mast) rigged fore and aft. Sometimes, the mizzen is only partly fore-and-aft rigged, bearing a square-rigged sail above. The defining factor is the fore and aft sail on the mizzen (helps to sail closer to the wind and speeds up manoeuvres)
