I got up at 5am yesterday and drove my old Ute through the rain and darkness to go to the Morwell swapmeet. I was very pleased when daybreak came, it made seeing the winding road much easier. I got to the venue just after 7am and the lack of signs on the way made me think it was cancelled. How right this was. I got there to see that the place was all closed up but there was not even a sign on the gate explaining that it was postponed or anything about a new date. As I left I passed a fellow I knew, so I did a U turn and followed him back to the gate. As we stood and chatted two other people came along and a large van was driving back and forth along the road looking for the swap. I think he wanted to set up a selling site.

I then drove to my second destination for the day, the Federation Picnic at Darnum, which was about thirty minutes drive vaguely in the direction of home. The rain put many people off but the weather soon cleared and the 100 or so people with about 70 displayed cars, Utes, trucks, a couple of tractors and a few stationery engines made a reasonable show. The Darnum Machinery Club ran their big air-start pumping engine. Since I last saw it running, it is now driving its original huge reduction gearbox and ex-Town Water supply three cylinder pump.

It was a great day catching up with old friends and making new ones. The sausages were pretty good after me leaving home without breakfast!

When I got home my Wife found reports of the cancellation on the computer, even though I had not been able to find them the previous evening. It would be great to be computer-literate but as I like to tell help desk young ones, I was born before computers were invented!

People laughed at me when I said I was going to be a comedian
