Your better to die trying than live on your knees begging

But PDU, if you get off your knees and have a go fixing what you can there's a fair chance you'll never have to beg at all
Anyway, thats how I see things

Grammar, like punctuation, appears to be a dying thing
Such as ,
Helping your uncle jack off a horse....
Helping your uncle, Jack, off a horse....

I don't dispute the original intent Mrsmackpaul
I was just offering a differing view point. As an ex chalky (amongst other things) I always encouraged the kids to look sideways rather than going for the obvious solution when dealing with problems (tunnel vision?).
I think grumpy gumpy also spotted a trait of my being a chalky as he mentioned grammar and punctuation which was no doubt related to my Grammar-Nazi red corrections! Sorry Paul.

it is all good mate, I definitely am not a grammar police or judge of those that write
Having a go is the most important thing
I remember when my son was learning to read I got him huge book of old army comics all set im WW2
His school wasn't happy with him reading war stories
Bit it turned him into a reader like his father and even more importantly he developed comprehension of what he was reading

If you want to win friends and influence people ( my "sometimes saying " for the thread), try correcting teachers spelling mistakes and punctuation, especially when they have been trying to pretend that you aren’t very smart, I lament the lack of quality of modern teaching

I won't hold those comments against you blokes as I know I'm old school - and was often in "differences of opinions" with younger teachers and principals.
For you that can remember back to the days of intermediate and leaving certificates I should mention that I failed Intermediate english, but snuck my way through to leaving level and passed it there! Basically they had this wonderful idea at intermediate level of identifying the verbs, nouns, adverbs, clauses and all sorts of other wonderful things that were plain gibberish to me at the time - even though as a keen reader I could write essays or whatever they required with no problems.
Personal pet hate is the often spoken, "these ones" and "those ones" which are an abomination and grammatically incorrect. I won't bore you any further explaining why but will simply add "here endeth the lesson".
