My last one from Bryce Courtenay (until I read another of his books)

You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich.

Bryce says this was said by Presbyterian clergyman William Boetcker but often attributed to Abraham Lincoln.
I don't know, I am just posting it here.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Someone once said that if you take all the money in the country and share it out equally between everyone, in five years time it will all be back where it is now.

As an Aussie by choice not birth I couldn't agree more, which leads to another quote from a Graeme Connors song
Home is not where you are born, home is where you are prepared to die.

You can't have too many toys!

Yes, this exactly what happened in Germany when their currency was declare worthless and a new currency introduced in the 1930's (or 1940's, I forget which years.

This was told to me by a migrant from Germany.

If life were predictable, it would cease to be life and would be without flavour.

Attributed to Eleanor Roosevelt.
