By backed off one side - you mean the drive side of the teeth is worn away so much it’s the wrong profile? Either way - both these options require trans out and full tear down right?

I assume its a 3x2 trans.....so is it possible to use low second gear to grade? ......never use the blade for hard lumpy stuff...always scarify it first.,so you are grading soft dirt.

Yes it’s a 3x2. It grades ok in 2nd so long as it isn’t taking much of a cut, but it’s not ideal. I might pull the shift cover off and see if I can spot anything…
Otherwise as you point out I can probably work around it
