Hi everyone, sorry for the late reply.
Well found a few things and have learned don't believe everything you read on the net!
Newto was correct as I suspect he should with his background.
Firstly no gauze, secondly I thought filter had to be full, its is not, thirdly yes self bleed.
But most importantly, yes I am admitting it here and now, I f@cked up. Rushing to get ready for shows with only 3 to 4 hours sleep after night work is not good.
My 903 has jakes on it, they are wired direct to a toggle switch on the gear lever, no micro switches. It was in the on position. Now in my defence, I had the cab tilted in the shed, put down drove outside under trailer, all fine. Then loaded my Steam Truck and started and ran rough. I cannot remember knocking the switch or any of my family in the cab but Friday morning when I had the entire fuel system off the truck I looked up and saw the switch on, guess how I felt!!!
Anyway I now know lots more about 903's!
I think I need to replace the fuel lines as the one from the filter under the air cleaner to the pump is a hydraulic hoses type and the rubber outer sheathing is gone down to wires and is solid no longer flexable.
Anyway thanks for clearing things up like yes they are self bleeding, yes the filter is only 3/4 full etc, etc.
Happy ending and we made it to Menangle Rally OK.
Now to fix a few things on the poor 1418.

Cheers
Paul.

Happy ending mate.

If you go to your local KW dealer you can buy the fitting and hose for a very reasonable cost and make your own.

Years ago I did a head gasket on a rather sad 466 Bedford in a school bus .... Out in the field ...owner watching and giving the usual advice along the way .... Got it done .... Out for a test run ..... Smoke everywhere ... Damned thing just wouldn't get going, lucky to get to 25 km/h .... Owner reall happy and telling me all about it ..... I leant over and flipped the exhaust brake off ..... Went like Hell owner said "oh .... I musta bumped it" ...... Didn't say much after that though ... :-?

Never did get a thanks for it either :-/

Whilst on the subject of 903's can anyone recommend where I can get a service, hot set im told for the engine in the Southern Highlands or South West Sydney. Anyone around that know how to tune and set these. I was told when I bought it that it had a heap of work done to engine (no receipts) and that i needs a hot set. Hope this is the correct terminology. I does run sweet and uses no oil, think the coolant needs checking and probably charge filter changing too. Newto any suggestions?
Cheers
Paul.
