I'd definitely fit a Hiclone (google "Hiclone Products" for info).

We have them in our Toyota utes, and they made a noticeable improvement to the tractors we had them in, including less smoke.

A local diesel mechanic put us onto them. I think they are good and worth fitting, and they are easy to fit.

Brett.

May also be worth running some injector cleaner through the fuel system. The Hiclone is a good idea to help with breathing. That is one crazy way of freely running air from out side to the engine. Best I can think of for a reason is that by reducing the bore size of the air intake it increases the speed at which it travels.
If I want to load a video on a Forum I post it on YouTube first then copy the link to the Forum. Anything more than that is way too technical for me.

I had the injectors checked and calibrated when i had the pump done up at Shepheards Diesel in Gosford, they were all pronounced healthy then. Its just a bit of Black smoke which dose thin out after a while and also i think a little oil from the valve stem seals, but i think that should get better when i've been able to give it a good run.
I was just thinking of a larger Donaldson Air cleaner and maybe a Snorkal type tube to Ram a bit more air in there
Cheers
Alistair

Assume the motor is a 500 ?......I would think a good size Donaldson would be ideal .......and dont expect any 70s diesel to be smoke free like they are now.......Ive had dozens of Fords ,Bedfords ,Perks ,etc over the years, and Ive found the performance and smoke isnt very critical on injector...........to the extent that I had a big collection of new/recod Ford injectors, and hundereds of nozzles, new and recoed, and I found you could use them in any pommy diesel with angled injectors ,and there was no difference in smoke ,etc.
