I was following one of our riders on the Postie Bike Challenge about 10 years ago near Hell's Gate in the Gulf and saw exactly the same thing.

Roo hit the rider and lifted him bodily off the postie bike which continued about 50 metres by itself. He was only doing about 40kph so apart from lots of gravel rash he and the bike restarted and continued. The roo did not miss a beat after landing on his feet following his shoulder charge of the rider. No panic, stopped for a quick look and bounced away into the shrubbery.

About an hour later an emu tried the same thing with my Landcruiser ute. Straight into the side at maximum revs. Took out the mirror and passenger side window which exploded glass all through the cab. He apologised by decapitating himself on the tray.

If the push bike had rego, the Roo could claim some TAC compo!

I'd rather have tools that I don't need, than not have the tools I do need.

Meanwhile I travel on city streets where countless millions of $$$ are spent on cyclist road marking, cyclist pathways, racks and so on.
Never any mention of costs recovery, a powerful group with friends in all the right places.

Wait until they realize that 'autonomous' cars will not speed, drive through redlight cameras, overtake dangerously etc, etc. Maybe the drop in revenue will give them cause to register bikes for some additional income.!!

"Like a Weapon". Says a District Court Judge. Front page in todays 'The West Australian'.

A cyclist was given a one year jail sentence (suspended  ) after running down a 23 year old woman in Hay Street, Perth. The woman was left with traumatic head injuries and had to learn to walk, talk and eat again.
The cyclist has been vocal about irresponsible road users in the past.

Makes you think.
