I worked with these solid rubber, cushion, tyres for many years for forklifts and underground mining stuff. They are speed restricted when working at maximum loads as Lang has suggested and yes the core does get hot, expand or heat the bond between rubber and steel band. A typical top speed is only 12 - 15 kph.

I think it is Eightpot giving us the drum on the solid tyres. It is sort of intuitive that they are speed limited and will throw rubber from the wheel at high speed but the melting blowout info is a surprise to me. Learn something new every day.

Lang, you took the words "You learn something new every day" right out of my mouth.
The maximum road speed allowable in Victoria (Eightpot, that is a State in Australia) last time I looked, before we went to metrics about forty years ago, for "any vehicle with one (!) or more solid rubber tyres was 13 miles per hour.
I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Those Scammells certainly were an amazing range of machines.
The car to the right of the "coffee pot' Scammell pulling the huge pressure vessel reminds me of my first car, a 1948 Vauxhall.
Roger Mahan's collection, shown here with Bill Hohepa, is on my bucket list for my visit to New Zealand which was to have been this month or next month but has been postponed due to lack of funds.

Is this Swishy unloading. Damn good effort I say!
These blokes are good.
And finally these oil rig blokes are inches away from amputation and death all day long.
