In the early 70's a local bloke that my Dad shared work with and help one and other out when one had more work than they could handle, had a couple of nice Inters with 160 Cummins motors a red one and a green one, we will call him Brian for this story. One truck was on primary producer the other was full redgo, a uncle of mine use to drive the red one and I would often go with him to help load and unload, we will call him Mick, carting livestock to Homebush saleyards Sydney and fertilizer out of Port Kembla as dad did. When they had two paying loads they would meet at Mt Victoria and swap number plates and the full redgo plate would go across the weighbridge and the primary producers plate would go back home on the other truck, this worked Ok for many years as the bridge would only open every now and then for a few hours, It was only live stock that mater because of the live stock permits, Fertilizer did not matter as you pay by Cheque at the works. then the bridge started opening for a few days at a time and Brian got told very bluntly that he would have to make up his mind what color he was going to paint the truck as it was green a hour ago and now it was red, so that was the end of that lurk.

As a little side note to my post above, we buried uncle Mick a couple of weeks ago, he had a pretty tough time for the last couple of years so it's probably best, but the world has lost the best whiskey maker the world has ever seen, the down side or up side depending how you look at it is that a lot of us have had a pretty good excuse to have a sip of whiskey every other night and as a result my little stock pile has vanished, here's to uncle Mick

reminds me of that Harry Chapin song......... 30thousand pounds of Bananas

"Be who you are and say what you feel...
Because those that matter...
don't mind...
And those that mind....
don't matter." -

Seed and Lang: I believe (???) that song or a similar one was originally written about an actual 30,000 pound load which was involved in a serious loss of brakes accident on a hill in Scranton PA USA????

Brocky,

You're correct it was about an actual accident in Scranton Pennsylvania.

Google will confirm it.

I've loved that song since the 70's. Just too silly to not like it.
