Some more photos from Maurie Sheehy. An old Freighter's Manager. The bottom three Leylands were from our own Depot.

Great photos mate. Nothing like how the old Truck & Trailer makers and dealers used to get a pro photograher in to capture their new products and deliverys.

Is it likely the old Freighter guy who gave you these photos - likely to remember who the triple deck sheep road train was for?

Mate of mine had a DCOF, 335 Cummins and 12 speed Allison, only 3 slots in the box, a splitter and high/low, reverse was a air switch on the dash....biggest trouble was keeping the air clean, big truck in its day.
He towed a tank for Mayne Nics for awhile.

Trust me

"Good Old Day's?"

Six close gear changes to get any meaningful speed up
and four more to see 60kph.
(and 400 meters down the road, the traffic lights are red. . . bugger.)

That would make for a very long day.
My 5 speed Hino was work enough.

Hurrah for big horse engines and automatics.

just saying,

Was talking to a bloke recently who had a White. He said it had a 12 speed Allison with a 3 speed joey box behind. Was on timber carting. Was the 1st time I had heard of a 12 speed Allison. He definatly said Allison Auto.

So dont know if Swishy might be talking about something different?

As I said - I dont know other than to have heard from this guy only 2 weeks ago. I'll double check next time I see him.

Oldfulla,
Maurie gave me those photos in approx. 1970-1971. I don't know whose truck it was. The only thing was it had 'Balmoral Photographics' on the back of it. Maybe, someone in Brisbane area may know of Maurie Sheehy's whereabouts.
