My question is why has it been running without any inhibitor? Surely that’s a no no that everybody is aware of. I can just imagine the state of the water passages and radiator.

The old 354 s dont need inhibitor..............tap water is good for what ails them..........in fact the original silver motors were just about immune to corrosion from anything short of pure acid like Quilpie bore water..............marvellous motors ,they made many owners rich with the near zero running costs, just like high cost corrosion prone motors of today keep owners poor.

overnite, I pulled this old girl out of a paddock where it sat for around 10 years, and I guess I have had it another 11 now. Radiator was full when I got it, so 10 years of slow dissolving???? Radiator didnt leak but looked suspect so I changed it to a sound one ex V8, had to get the top hose changed to suit perky, now I cant see in the radiator fill hole at all as the brass shoulder is about 10mm below the neck..... my bad as the nice green water is not green any more.

On a happier note, hole in plate welded up easily, filled a couple of thin spots, bought some gasket sheet and permagoo stuff, tomorrow I will flush, chemi flush and refill.

And John perhaps this old smoker is an original silver.

I have noticed the initial or first few posts in a lot of threads on the forum have disappeared, at least on my computer anyhow.

You will find that the disappearing first post goes with the last post on a page repeating on the next page.
