I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Rusty554,
That raider is a very rare truck and yours appears to be in excellent condition, considering its age and the use it would have had.
Your suggestion that it was bodied here would be correct as import tariffs on incomplete vehicles was much lower, to support the local industry.
The article that Grandad posted has obviously been scanned/copied electronically, so you have to make allowances for minor mistakes. Computers are not human and cannot see what is not correct. I am reminded of the story (maybe true) long ago, of an engineering document translated by machine that made several references to "water sheep." When an engineer checked it, he found the phrase was "hydraulic rams."
In case you do not know, the tyre size of 32x6 (32 inches overall, with a sidewall height of 6 inches) is now 600x20. These are almost impossible to get at a reasonable price now, so you could use 500x20 or, if you can find them, 6.50x20. Avoid anything wider, as they will look oversized and out of proportion. Tyres in the early days were much skinnier than we are used to now.

The plate specs a 40 cwt gross.....I would think that a fair sized truck with a hardwood tray would be pushing that empty.

John, It would still carry a decent load as it would tare fairly lightly. You see the Poms allow for extra load by not weighing them down with a lot of horse power to pull around.

I reckon there is no way that truck could weigh less than 1.5 ton empty giving it a half ton load. No doubt it has carried many times that in its lifetime.
A Ford TT truck of the same size ran about 1.2 ton but Ford specialised in super light weight with their high tensile frame and only had 4 cylinders.
PS Just had a look at that plate. Maybe it is not what we think. It does not say Gross Weight of Vehicle. To my thinking it says it will carry 2 ton on the chassis made up with whatever combination of body and load you care to put on it. For a vehicle of this size that sounds reasonable still making it only about 3 ton GVM.

I'm confused, I;ve scanned hundreds of documents to my computer for storage or printing and it never has changed any words ever. Is what you say a different type of scanning that has changed words around?

It's not scanning, it is a program that "reads" a picture of the newspaper and tries to type what it reads. Its is not a great reader.
