Well just to satisfy people's curiosity I had a look at the brake shoes and they were as I thought they would be, all the same numbers
One half has CAM stamped on it the other has ANC stamped on it
This is the two separate pads on the same shoe
CAM goes on the S cam end and ANC goes on the fixed or anchored end

Bearings for the Tip Turbine arrived so I put it back together and checked for clearance etc, just used wheel bearing grease

The bearings are side load roller bearings, not a standard ball bearing, more like a thrust bearing so I put them in facing each other
It's all spring loaded and shimmed etc so took some creative thinking to make this all work

Next was the front hubs as the seals had turned up as well

Now Les and Vern (if you ever watched my YouTube videos you will know who I'm talking about) had taken the nuts with a hammer and chisel so I welded the nuts up and ground them back to shape

Was advised to just make a spanner instead of buying a socket by Swishman, so thats what I did

I started with this

Yeah a beaut sunrise, I really do think this is the greatest country on earth

Got some rusty crap inch x 1/4 flat bar, put some relief cuts on what was to be the outside and slowly bent it around the nut and welded it up

Then got a even crappier piece of 2 1/2 inch pipe and welded it to the flat pieces

And I ended up looking like this

I then welded a bit of 2 or 3 mm plate to the end and drilled a 20 mm hole in the end and one thru each side

The end one I took to with the file to make it square to fit a 3/4 drive ratchet

The end ones I put encase I want to stick a bar in it

I then welded a bit of 3/8 reo around the very end just encase the strength of my saggy old body is to much and busts it

Ended up looking a little like this

Good thing Paul. Now don't forget where you put that spanner for when you need it again.

Your "chair" looks a bit more comfortable than a milk crate. Is it?
Nice work on the socket, btw.

Thats a postcard pic of a sunrise, well done.
The socket will last longer than a genuine one, very well built.

PDU's garage: My crate with lid for storage, which makes a handy low step, plus a comfy cushion that has been giving great service for about ten years now. Aren't they standard in most garages?

Paul, when I was on the spanners... Most of my work was brakes, hubs etc. We made all our "spanners" just like you did...

I've watched this part of the thread with a bit of a chuckle... For the fact that that it's exactly how I remember/d I d it.... And the fact that I don't do it anymore ;)

You might Laugh at me because I'm different, I laugh at you because you're all the same
