Snowy Mtn trucks

This Rolls-Royce powered Antar built by Thornycroft was used on the hydro=electric project, as it was a Commonwealth Government project all trucks had to be of British manufacture, they did keep an old Diamond "T" tank carrier under wraps and secretly bought it out if the Antar ran out of breathe
anything above the reasoning of a mongrel dog is a waste of time

Choc's get back to work, Billy's waiting for that twin steer to be ready after the rain stops. If you've got a little spare time though, maybe you could Paint your Antar. cya Tim

Worth more to you if you dont, I might be wrong Chocs but I reckon that thing would get a lot of interest to the die cast collectors on a website Of course sentimental value always outweighs any monetary value but it always good to know what something is worth.

In the early days of the Snowy contracts the likes of Leyland Hippos were the biggest gear around, and brakes were probably more important than power, as was the ability to turn in very tight spaces. The Leylands and AECs had full air at a time when yankee stuff had feeble brakes, especially on the front. They used a lot of LeTournau gear so there was no directive to go British, just the best for the conditions.

Hi Swishy, Yes that one was a W-model (W924),similar specs to the L924 above although it has a bigger front axle FL901 (18,000lb). Can you ask if it has a Allison HT70 and does it have LW924 on the ID plate????
Cheers JOTS.
