Well Newto...
Ya know what Ol Mate said..
ITYNTGHGNFI lol
I'll have to give you a bit of ground there Newto..
Essentially, an LN LNT series Louie.
Set back front axle , only to accommodate the twin steer grouping.
LNT style bonnet / air intake
LNT style grille
LN LNT style 3208 cat..
Guards / headlight modification being the nearly LTS part.
Down to the Black and White Chemist for you Newto..
No more smokes ..lol

OK fellas,
The Octopus as we dubbed it was definitely an LNT 8000
from memory it was built in early 80s (I think).
I left the job in 1987 and it was still in service then.
It was essentially a prototype which had a fabricated walking beam (load sharing) suspension with 34,000 lb rear end on Hendrickson.
Waaaay before any thoughts of tractor motors or LTS models (although the the styling of the bonnet is similar) by a long shot.
There was another twin steer LNT 8000 getting around at the time but talk was the guy had built it himself, it more resembled an ordinary LNT 8000 with a non load sharing front axle and longer wheelbase.
It also delivered to the same plant from time to time and was a Pioneer Subbie (I think).
No doubt somebody else may have more precise info on the engineering / prototype status of this weird looking critter as I was only a (very young) steering wheel attendant, who only knew the basic info on some thing that was just another truck.

I am glad you are so much more ancient than me Raggs..
You remember all this stuff real good..
Can't remember mates name either..
I reckon it did have a green body on it, but not the right 'pioneer' color.
I thought 'his' front axles were closer together?
I was under the impression he transported the casting sand?
All good history though thank you..
Did'nt take the 'others' long to work out 8 legged conventionals for every day use wasn't a bad idea :
chocs
PS..
Paging bigcam, paging bigcam.....
Your smokes are ready
lol
