Still on the off topic... Ken Maynard was a walloper, stationed at Frankston... that's why the detail in the Cop Shops and experience with the trucks is so accurate...
I suspect the Constable doing the driving test was Senior Constable James Winch, a proper gentleman last worked at Mordialloc years ago I think.

Frankston used to have a couple of orginal Maynard drawings hangingin the mess room...

I remember old mate Ossie doing express Melb. Syd. for Brambles with a day cab Superliner in the early 80s.
Another Mate ran general to Bris. out of Melb. in a couple of different trucks over the years.
They also still had a tanker division when I was carting fuel in the 90s.
Am currently working for one of the remnants, Bis industries which is owned by an asset management company by the name of KKR.

Steamnut

This story is grossly off topic - but your story reminded me of an experience I had in the early 1970's.

I was working servicing Quarry gear and oraganised to get a free load of 2 inch rock to put in my very wet and spongy driveway at home.

So on the arranged Saturday morning I turned up to the quarry in my Landcruiser ute for the load.

Went and parked up close to the 2" stockpile - when 2 988 loaders appeared - and proceeded to load me from each side.

All done in jest of course - but at least I got a full load as they had promised.

Almost back on topic - Brambles took over a long established Fremantle company (Frank Manford) and traded for many years as Brambles Manford.
I worked there for many years, doing wharf, freezer, and near country (up to 400k trips). It was a big yard with 100 + drivers and subbies.
THey had many other depots - Long Distance, Heavy Haulage, Interstate, Tankers, to name a few.

All gone now

Cheers, Neil
