Used to be at yearly TMR inspection ,the inspectors didnt look at the crane ,but sometimes checked the mod plate was there....checked all the mod plates ,in fact.......But ,seems now you need a 10 year cranesafe inspection,but I dont know.......Cost of cranes new is astronomical ,around $100k mounted for a 12 ton metre Palfinger.....Most need a 6000 psi pump too,which is costly as well.

John
Going on a vintage registered truck so no inspection in Qld. Anybody can carry a crane, only needs inspection if you operate it and of course mine will just be for show.
Looking at the new cranes they have very thin rams to save weight and help with compact construction. As you say they need huge pressure pumps to run. The older ones had much fatter rams and could be driven by those old rattly PTO pumps with the pressure of a mouse fart.

A mate was just charged $10,000 for his Hiab ( a big bastard) to be re-certified at 10 years of age.
Still cheap as a new one was over $100K

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Yes, Lang, I believe the crane is only for show and will NEVER be used. You just MIGHT have to demonstrate it to interested passers-by at a few truck shows, they may not be convinced when you arrive so you would have to show them again just before you leave.
The new badge will suit Froggie Dog very well.

No doubt it would have been discussed. Probably went like this;
You know how there is that gap between the cab and tray? Well I found this you beut bargain and I had to amke the decision right away before the 5 blokes bought it. Isn't it a beauty, just like you? Thanks for being so understanding dear. I'll come back in from the dog box in a week to see how I am going.

If Lang's anything like me and 99% of 50% of the population, it's only the depth that varies. :dry:Mrsmackpaul wrote: Well I can see you jumped the gun a bit, you said you had to wait till next month for the crane purchase to keep the boss happy
