I looked at one of those a couple of years back and although you can buy them for $500 complete with power pack they do not work for me.

a. Because I need to lift 3 ton with my Clark Towmotor which is short enough to fit on a tail lift but too heavy.
b. I also need to lift my Dodge Weapon Carrier which although only 2 ton is the same length as a Landcruiser.

A fold-up unit that tucks up under the tray would be very useful but could not be used with either a beaver tail or tilt tray.

This is absolutely the perfect unit just down the road from me but at $18,000 for a $3,000 truck the good gear prices me out of the market.

Lang,
I think to be perfect, it would have to be a tilt/slide tray. I don't think you could get either the Towmotor or Weapons Carrier up that tray!

How about buying the Hino, putting the crane and tray on Froggie Dog and selling off the Hino? It is still a costly exersize, though.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Would be OK as it has a winch on the front of the tray. But as you say way too expensive for something that will travel 5,000 km on a good year. There is a wonderful 2019 DAF with tilt slide and a crane for sale here but $305,000 is a little over my budget!

Hi,

on that Pickles site where I found the trailer if you filter by 'Salvage' there were some non going tilt tray vehicles that might be a suitable donor for the tilting pieces. There was also a crane on a burnt out cab.

Lang,

You can't take it with you so spend now before it's too late.

Well, that 's my approach.

Why let the kids inherit my hard work.

Let the lazy bastards get out of bed before 1.00pm and do something for once.

Just have to time it right. No good spending like a drunken sailor without a plan then living another ten years with SFA in the bank.

My plan is to live well right up to the last day and have the undertaker's cheque bounce.

Stop looking!

Just found a good straight beaver tail with ramps that should fit OK.

Now have a 5.8m checker plate tray for sale.

Unfortunately we don't come with a reliable Use By date tattooed on the forehead. But as a friendly accountant says: enjoy it while you can and go out with nothing, preferably owing a heap!

Saw on a lowloader recently that the folding ramps had some short legs that hung down when the ramps were lowered. This reduced the height of the ramps plus strengthened them with the short legs. So if you need to use the alloy ramps to reduce the angle you can adapt some short legs too to lift the capacity.

How did you get on with your linkages on the gearbox?
