THEN and NOW! Heggie's fleet number 363 found.
Chassis Number402916. 1978 L-HD Kenworth has spent most of the last 40 years in a shed and not worked. This was the trial truck before Heggie's purchased about another 8. Spec sheet showed it was originally a 15 speed Roadranger but it must have been changed to a 9 speed at the dealers. The current owner pealed back the 9 speed gearshift pattern sticker and found a 15 speed pattern sticker underneath. The current owner plans to get the KW roadworthy and fit a small tray body on it to move his tractors around..

That's quite the amazing find, I gather it's very low mileage then

This truck was built with a 15 Speed Roadranger and changed to a RT9509 Roadranger and 38,000 lb Eaton diffs. After the disaster with the first 6 W models 38.000 lbs diffs which had all diffs replaced with Rockwell 44,000lb, I am sure all the later L-HD's KW's came with Rockwell SSHD 44,000 lb diffs. A question for the brain's trust? The diff in the photo 38,000lb or 44,000lb? The 44,000 lb Rockwells I worked on had a pressed metal cover on the input shaft to hold the seal, not a cast housing.

Original spec DS380, IIRC that was an Eaton designation. The Rockwell equivalent is SQHD.

That to me seams like a lot of miles in a short amount of time on what I would of thought to be short haul type of work

Did these trucks run 24 hours a day ?
