I can still splice with hemp/sisal, but never with wire.
I still get to backsplice and eyesplice: mooring lines.

Echuca will be busy over 8-10.6, but I will be elsewhere with a treble clash.
Steamrail is running a long-weekend tour with early 1950s mainline 4-6-4 steam loco R761, assisted by early 1960s mainline diesel S313. It spends Saturday in Swan Hill, then is in Echuca from 6.15 Sun to 9.40 Mon.
The paddlesteamers are running an expanded program: some for the public, and some charter.

This will be a go go go hectic weekend.

Years ago, I ran a special steam train from Melbourne for the event, just for the day. My father brought my 11 & 12 yo brothers for the ride. With minutes to go before departure for Melbourne, my father rushed up :'I've lost your brothers; I'm going back'. With 1 minute to go, my brothers arrived: 'We've lost dad, but we've made sure that we are here on time'. We couldn't afford to lose our path to Melbourne, and I allowed the guard to flag the train out on time. With no accommodation available in Echuca on this long weekend, my father spent his night under a hessian bag in a van at the railway station, woke up early to have a cup of tea with the stationmaster, and rode the morning train into Melbourne.

If I remember I will try and bring the truck or the xp ute in and have a look. We might able to combine them all to reproduce a photo from a bygone era. I will be at the Steam Rally in Echuca on Saturday and Sunday.

Having lived through a pandemic I now understand all the painting of fat people on couches!
