Well I got this far, and NO it will not win a beauty contest but it is once again solid. got part of the way through spraying the top side and the new spray can nozzle decided to spew out everywhere so back to Bunnings for a replacement.

After having the first can of spray paint fail as it was spewing paint out of every orifice and dripping over the job I took it back to Bunnings and the next one worked well. I do like using this Dulux Epoxy paint as it does dry hard but not as good as the 2pac but is good enough for a 1pac system. As I may have said it will not win any beauty contest but it is done and waiting to dry for a couple of days then fit it back up under the mower and run it again.

Has come up well, I can honestly say that Bunnings paint is crap and I would never waste my time money or effort with it again

And I would much rather support my local hardware or paint shop

The Dulux paint I have used of late, kill rust equivalent and about 12 liters was good to use, I still had runs and orange peel look in places but it works fine and those hickups are totally my fault

Even on Bunnings own web site the reviews on their paint are pretty scathing to say the least

Great work on the deck and hope it gives you a few years of service before the next rebuild is required

I went to get some two pack clear for a small job from the local auto paint specialist. He had two pack in spray cans.

Two different types. One had a secondary chamber with the hardener you had to access by some sort of push-the-button maneuver. I did not follow up on that because he had one already pre-mixed.

How, one might ask, can a paint that works on chemical reaction and not on drying, be mixed in a can? Apparently it is a bit like Super-glue in reverse, no oxygen it stays dormant but as soon as it is released into the air the oxygen acts as a catalyst to start the chemical reaction.

It was the same price as Dupli-colour acrylic and as far as I can see did a perfect touch-up job blending with the existing clear coat.

I don't know whether I am game to try the petrol resistant qualities but it should be good in theory.

Yes Paul, many pressure pack cans of spray paint are absolute rubbish with no coverage at all even with more than 3 coats and I avoid them like the plague. Yes just because it has Dulux on the label does not mean that it is the same as Dulux from the local paint shop BUT this Epoxy paint is a beauty. Yep, I had an issue and to be honest it was maybe my fault as I did not shake the can for the minimum of 2 minutes so possibly the nozzle got clogged because it was not mixed properly. The second can did get prepped correctly and worked and covered beautifully.
Land I had heard of the 2pac that has the 2 chambers and you had to press something to release the hardener and shake it up and spray and once you have done that you cannot save any of the contents as it will sure. Not heard of the other option 2pac you chose but that sounds correct your description of no oxygen inside only propellant. I wonder if it is similar to this Epoxy paint I had used? Either way unless you have a test piece sprayed somewhere I would not like to test the fuel theory either.

Today while waiting for the paint to dry properly I was able to assemble the spindles and idler pulleys and a new belt. I found one of the springs for the tensioner on the LH side had broke and not an easy one to buy except at the usual high prices at a mower shop as a spare part price so I bought a less than $2.00 coil spring similar to the one on the RH side and welded a bracket in place to duplicate the way it works, and it does. The $20.00 "A" section belt is ready to go to work once the deck is fitted but not until the paint has cured.

Cobbadog,You have done an amazing job rebuilding a deck that a lot of people, including myself, would have had to throw away.
That V belt reminds me of one of my old Mum's knitting patterns. It went something like:-

"Knit two,
Purl one,
and pass the slip-stitch over"

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

If that was me doing the knutting it would be knit 1 purl 2 drop 10 and throw it in the bin. Yet Dee sits there during the cooler parts of the year while we sit and watch the tv and knits up premmy baby clothes and also dolls outfits and donates them to the Hospital or the local op shop.

I am happy enough with the outcome and your not alone when many others even on the mower forum I pester all declared it to be simply a one word article and that was not a good one to post although it is used frequently by myself. I guess I can thank my late Dad for my patience and to have the want to have a go at it and challenge myself at the same time, not unlike that NOT forgotten McDonald engine. Going by this weather I will be lucky if this paint dries over the next couple of days then the weekend is expected to be very wet so will have to bide my time and start on the next project.
