So hooked up an electric pump into a bottle of fuel, ran a very basic wire to the battery, connected the ignition and pushed the solenoid . . . sounds horrible, but not easy being inside and outside at the same time had to take another bit outside . . .

Still sounds horrible outside, but considering the makeshift exhaust, the fact this hasn't had any attempt to set the timing, plus the huge vacuum line to the brake booster is wide open and not connected, I can live with it for now. For a while at least.

After a few minutes of running the oil filter started leaking at the top! This was fixed by changing over to a different lid, slightly domed compared with the one that was on there.

Also I've got water coming out of somewhere, possibly the water pump as tightening all hoses has not helped. I'll blame Ned Kelly - "Life wasn't meant to be easy."

I think it was Jim Middleton, reporter for the Melbourne Herald. Ned Kelly never said anything (except maybe "Hey, take it easy that is chafing my neck") according to the dozen witnesses.

I do like PDU's attitude whether it be Malcom Fraser or Ned Kelly/Jim Middleton. Keep on keeping on.............. now who said that?

Opps, silly blunder . . . I usually don't err on quotations, I must have been thinking about all the water under the front of the truck?

Waiting for it to dry out after sweeping as much away as possible.

And Malcolm supposedly got it from George Bernard Shaw:
"Fraser's best known phrase, generally taken as a gloomy explanation of life's difficulties, but for him rather it was a reason to take on difficult tasks. Not widely recognised as being in fact a paraphrase of a line from George Bernard Shaw's play Back to Methuselah: "Life is not meant to be easy, my child; but take courage: it can be delightful." Well known from his Alfred Deakin lecture speech (20 July 1971), he'd actually used it or known the sentiment for many years prior; according to an interview for the Australian Biography project (1994.)"

Actually ,Mal had a good deal of bad luck....(apart from having Johnny Howard hanging around, that is)........he had all his money in Loyds Insurance, the broker running the show was a conman and sent them broke ,Mal had to cough up the losses........then he had an auction of livestock to raise some dough ,a bull got loose and mangled a couple of bidders ,who sued Mal ,and won....no wonder he was never happy.
