A bit of topic but my Father used to tell a story of him harrowing with a Lanz Bulldog......... pulling hard up a hill it almost died & then started running backwards & ran over the harrows before he could stop it ..........

G'day
So are you blokes saying that if the flap gets shut accidentally it can cause internal damage??? What if its a idle??
I've hooked mine up today so it works off a switch on the dash. I hope I never have to use it but you never know.
I think I new thread might be in order to document in one spot the nessecary things to check/maintain to avoid such drama.
Cheers

Detroit fitted the flap for very good reason.
I needs to be operable.
The best thing to do is have the emergency stop on a cable. Yes it becomes a bit of a saga running a cable on a cabover.
Make the cable part of a maintenance schedule.
As mentioned before, it only takes a stuck rack to upset the whole deal.
If it sucks a couple of blower seals, it'll be a whole lot cheaper than running the thing off the clock..

Probably no need for a new thread on the topic.
It's been covered quite a few times.
Main damage that can occur is the blower seals.
Don't get carried away, the chance of it happening on a running motor is slim, but if it does, your works anyway now.

I remember those-Lightburn Zeta- the fuel gauge was a bit of plastic tube running up the centre of the dash--or very similar-there was a "sports " model too from memory, similar to Gogo Dart .

I was thinking of the Zeta as I read the early posts.
It didn't have a reverse gear.
In the rare event that it had to manoeuvre into a carpark (or make a three-point turn), the motor had to be stopped, then restarted in the opposite direction.
Its biggest claim to fame was getting around Australia on either a Redex trial, or a similar event with a different sponsor. One journalist of the era ('Wheels' magazine?) jested that the crew had spent more time carrying the vehicle than driving it.

Not so much as Two Stroke but Two Cycle..
The liners are ported to allow air in from the blower, piston comes up to close ports, gases exit via Exhaust Valves only.
Hope that explains a little

hmm,
no, but I'll take your word for it.
More research (by me) needed.
Sounds like one of those cockamamie british ideas.
2 stroke not 2 cycle, ports, turbo's and valves. ???
Why don't we just perfect the blowing up part?
(and give them something entertaining to do until their all gone?)
LOL
