Yes, they're the trucks I asked about. Thanks so much for the pics! They look like early W925's judging by the shape of the front guards. Am I correct in assuming this? I thought they were WW2 vintage...

I think they are/were either LW925's or LW848's from memory

Thanks for the photos. My grandfather used to drive for Fleet Express and as a kid I used to love the photos he showed me of big loads like that one. They had a company newsletter that I used to pour over every time I visited him to look at the truck pics. I must find out if he ever kept any of them. That red and black logo is so familiar on seeing it again.

Well, I dunno .. but I reckon these blokes must have been the equivalent of Fleet Express in the 1940's .. get a look at the total lack of braking on the rear bogie, the bloke riding on the deck of the float .. and the bloke driving along with his door open.

I'd guess he was hanging out the door most of the time, probably making sure the rest was still coming .. 'cos I'll bet mirrors weren't high on his list of necessary adornments .. :D

Photographed this on Monday just on the Melb side of Geelong as i was travelling at 100k's i didn't get it all in a photo, there was 3 trucks hooked together at the front as seen in the first photo and another 3 behind. It must be bloody heavy.
