What a ridiculous statement whoever came up with that must have been stuck for filling space! As if anyone could be bothered laying out 108 meters of dollar coins until they layed down 43,200 of em! And they call this news? That'd be like counting gear changes on the Putty Road, totally unrealistic!

where does the 43200 one dollar coins come from??
Just some body trying to play with a calculator and then can't get it right
108m = 108000mm
one dollar coin 25mm
10800 divide by 25 = 4320 one dollar coins someone added a "0"

Hey Rusty that's a classic  you went from 108,000mm to 10,800 divided by 25. The old switcheroo dropping a zero from there to compensate for someone adding a zero somewhere else :woohoo:
Damn numbers are liars.
At least it's better than the Yanks measuring everything in football fields, who cares? who knows how long a football field is? Just them in their own little world.
Have a guess, how many gearchanges on a lap of the Putty

6354 Perkins in a AB 180 Inter with a single axle trailer, answer too bloody many. Five and a half hours from Bulga bridge to Windsor bridge on a good day. After that I stepped up to a Leyland Comet short door version. First thing you do is remove the webbing strap that stopped the door going all the way around 180 degrees. By removing the strap you could then swing the door all the way around then move to the right put left foot on accelerator to get away from the exhaust manifold heat radiating out through the engine cover. The leyland had a six speed gearbox so you had more gear changes.

Rex that driving method sounds err "different". You must have seen some strange looks from vehicles coming towards you :)
On the can of worms subject of transmissions would less available gears mean less changes because each gear could hang on longer?
Bet no-one wants to move into this century and use an auto, spoil the fun wouldn't it?
While having a look at auto's I found this-
"Volvo manufactures its own transmissions for its own trucks under the I-Shift product line. Volvo does offer Eaton’s UltraShift PLUS. It may be of interest to you to know that Volvo is the parent company of Mack meaning they own the company. The I-Shift transmission is the same AMT used in
Mack Trucks but it is marketed under the name Mack mDRIVE which are paired with MP8 heavy-duty truck engines."
Seem to remember there is a bloke on here who loves American Trucks but is not a friend of Volvo

Melbourne Express: Monday, February 5, 2018.
Trucks will today be banned from the right hand lane of the Monash Freeway in a bid to improve safety and travel times.
The nine-month trial will apply in both directions, between Huntingdale in Mount Waverley and Jacksons Road in Noble Park.
The trial will determine whether the ban is to become permanent.

On Saturday night, were you one of the thousands of people who lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the massive AGL generator?
Hordes of people turned out to see the 108-metre superload roll through the streets on the final leg of its journey to Port Melbourne where it will be shipped to Germany for repairs.
The quirky story has captured the attention of Victorians who have turned out to watch the three-day passage.
On Friday, we interviewed the 72-year-old trucker in charge of the massive operation which required six heavy haulers to be in total sync, from their speed to engine revs.
"'I've been in the industry more than 50 years, but leading big jobs like this for the past 20 and I can't imagine doing anything else," Bert Jansen said.
* 23.24: There are 1000’s of people on North Road waiting for the bloody generator.
* 23.32 superload coming down McKinnnon hill, North Road. (video clip).
* 23.50 superload crossing Hawthorn Road while YT holds the overhead wires up and out of the way.
* 2.38 Mission complete! Superload safely delivered to Port of Melbourne.
* 15.41 Huge crowds turned out overnight for the last leg of a 100-metre long road train's marathon trip to Melbourne's docks. (7 news video clip).

Delays as huge convoy moves from Port Melbourne to Loy Yang B power station
Herald Sun 22.5.18.
video: February: Huge Generator Convoy.
A COLOSSAL convoy will hit the road this weekend to haul part of a generator across southeast Victoria.
The 108m-long, 7.3m-wide load is likely to block lanes of traffic as it moves from Port Melbourne to the Loy Yang B power station near Traralgon over three nights.
VicRoads has pleaded for patience with motorists stuck behind the large load facing 20-minute delays.

Dozens of people lined streets to watch a similar load cart a generator from Loy Yang A power station to Port Melbourne in February.
“We are asking people to stay away for their own safety, the safety of our crews and so that nobody gets caught behind it,” VicRoads’ Chris Miller said.
“We are a well-oiled machine when it comes to moving loads of this size now. We want to get it out of town and down where it needs to be with as little disruption as possible.”
Alinta Energy, which owns Loy Yang B, confirmed to the Herald Sun that the 558-tonne load would carry a generator stator.
The stator, from Japan, is a key component in generators and will be installed as part of pre-planned maintenance next year.
The convoy will leave Webb Dock about 10pm on Saturday to head to Officer, via Beaconsfield Pde, the Nepean Highway, Centre Rd and the Princes Highway.
From Officer, it will travel along the Princes Freeway to Yarragon between 10pm on Sunday and 5am on Monday.
Its final leg to Loy Yang B will be via the Princes Freeway, Yinnar-Driffield Rd and Hazelwood Rd from 10pm on Monday.
CONVOY TO LUG HUGE GENERATOR ACROSS VICTORIA.
SUPERLOAD ARRIVES AT PORT, BUT JOURNEY NOT OVER YET.
NEW POWER STATION OWNER VOWS BETTER PRICES.
