The last 71 s had spring loaded levers on the rack so one stuck injector couldnt jam the rack...........Ive also seen the same problem on a D9G.....no rack ,but water in the oil caused the small pilot valve governor to stick .Fortunately the intake pipes were off ,and a bit of flat board stopped the motor running away.

Had a 12V71 take off one night, the governor drive had worn /broken and not being able to sense the RPM applied full throttle with no governor action to back it off.

Never pulled the shutoff flap meself ........legend has it that the blower will seize the paddles .........once saw a NSWGR Clyde loco have the shutdown applied ....couldnt see for smoke ,but the motor kept idling at about 50 rpms.

When they ran away they jump the racks and if you pushed on the accelerator pedal that made them worse , ?? Is that right I had been told it one night by a Gm 2 stroke lover, but I’m not sure I got it right, can someone tell me please

Have not heard that before, pretty well impossible to "jump"the rack.
If it is a runaway from the rack it is usually a stuck injector with the old double screw rack arms.
Now if you have had the top off the governor and not put it back on correctly you can get a runaway.

Most common disaster with a GM is leaking fuel jumper ,rod thru the block .....used to happen regularly with Austin Western cranes with 4/53s,dunno why.

A little GM question ...............If you had , ... lets say a 671 .... .... relative to the crankshaft, what direction
would the camshaft rotate..........................................

Depends which rotation and camshaft.

If you go back to the second of those video clips, about 1:55 there is a schematic for left and right hand engines
