I know this has taken a long time for me to start loading these but here is a start. These ones are close to me as Dad and I built one very similar when I was 12 to ride around the streets of Sydney's western suburbs and I got away with it for a couple of years.

I'm thinking the engine in that one is actually off a lawn mower with a wind-up start. If it works, I suppose....

The POMS built theirs using Villiers. This Aussie built one uses the Victa model 1 or 2 engine. The Wico flywheel had the fins removed and smoothed and you can see they left of the rectangular points cover for easy acces but when set you rarely ned to get back inside again. The ratchet pulley fitted in this case was far from original. It is off an impact starter model possibly the Consul or similar model from the 1970's. It should have the old style rope pulley if any pulley at all. I say that because I never had a transmission with a clutch, I had a primary and secondary chain direct drive so I picked up the back wheel, ran along and bump started it. Never bothered with brakes either, it was all about going fast.

While we are on Welbikes here are some D-Day photos.

These are British Paratrops not German. The airborne people wore much better helmets than the usual tin dish.

Why is it, that whenever I go to a Museum I expect to see Myself on display so younger people can see what Geriatrics/Curmudgeons look like?
