This is a bit like 'Flinstone', except flinstone is a nickname, not official. or whatever.
Swishy your details are correct except for the fact that the Waugh truck is not a W 955, its just a 955, the MMWB truck is not a W 923, its just a 923. Some people think any KW conventional is a W, a bit like any squared off steel nosed Mack being a Flinstone.
There are often errors in books, that is one of them in the Ed. Cameron book. The Leader book is full of them.
Cam, the Wyton truck is a 923, the 1st KW sold by B&H, not the 1st W sold in Australia. If its the 1st W sold in Australia then what does that make the Rankine or the MMWB trucks, because they are 923's aswell.

Swish,
Explanation I remember is the the "W" indicated the wide conventional cab. Unlike the previous cabs you couldn't wind down the passenger window from the driver's seat
The caption in Ed's book also says that first "W" model was demo'ed to the Hydro Authority in Tasmania and later sold to Brown & Hurley at Kyogle.
The first W924 on the list shows as sold in January '67 to Carsons Northern Timber in NSW. Maybe the bits of the jigsaw puzzle fit and Ed's memory was just a bit out on the date it came in.
Adam,
Certain folks were present when the lists of the first Kenworths sold in Australia were inscribed on stone and carried down from the Mount (actually Cameron's depot on Doncaster Hill). They have been entrusted with this sacred information to share sparingly, as the need arises, with fellow believers in the faith of Kenworth.
My list goes out to 115966 in July '69 but there are many gaps on the last fewpages stone tablets.

Jimbo, apart from the cab, they have a different chassis.

Was the chassis difference that W's had straight rails with bolt on, flanged pieces to drop down to the cast brackets that were the front spring hangers, radiator and bumper mount?

I've maybe give everyone a red herring here. Both those trucks have the same cab as the S model. The bloke who owns the one in the picture below has a heap of KW's, watch's the forum, and I'm sure a lot of you know him. From my dodgy memory, he was telling me that this model was called a 924, 925 or what not. It wasn't until about 1967, when the W model cab cam in that they had the W prefix. Interestingly, some of the early W models have a steel roof.

Is there any features to look out for if I see it again? eg numbers on rego sticker. What made me take the shot was the Seattle USA badge, which I guessed at the time meant it was imported.
