A lot of fuel co. KWs had those three big windows here in Aus.The 3x BP K124 (KT450s) in Darwin early 80s are an example. Also Shell agent @ Katherine,Bob Holt's KWs (2x K144,5x K124) all had them.Shell Co,Darwin also had a W model with 36in bunk around '79/'80 that had three windows.
FWIW Shell for sure used to lay down the law with its contractors regarding specs. When I was working for Cootes mid 90's one of the Shellcos company R model Macks fell over in Victoria somewhere. The driver tried to get out of the cab via the windscreen but couldn't because of the stoneguard. He was eventually rescued, unharmed, but Shell removed all their stoneguards and Cootes got the Royal Order to remove the guards on any trucks that were contracted to Shell.

Maybe they were just using up old stock of cab labels.

Or was it a sinister plan to deliberately confuse detectives 40 years later?

Jimbo, just going by the chassis# starting with 400 makes it from Oz?
Detective, I'm not sure when the NTC started, but I had a 72 model K125 years ago (I can't find the chassis number, but it was ex_Ipswich Earthmovers origonally) and was NTC 350, 12515 roadranger and SSHD on crowbars. The tag on the motor had NTC 400 on it, I assumed it was derated from that for automotive use, and obviously given it's age it was a smallcam motor.

Just a real quick scan of the KW list and the first NTC350 appears to be 400228, a K125CR delivered 13/6/72. Plenty of NTC335's before and after though.

But before then was an NTA370 for Norgate. 400171, delivered 28/3/72.

well gents ..the plot thickens!! the cab tag on 400002 actually says KANSAS CITY MISSOURI USA (sorry about the capitals), followed by all the usual details.

400143 (bakacs chickens) has a tag on the rh door opening saying nothing more than KENWORTH with just underneath that ''motor truck company'' followed by all its usual details, etc...no mention of place of manufacture.

there's a chance the first few of these CR cabs were built in the US ...maybe to ''prove'' the tooling or whatever but all the same, it wouldn't surprise me.

which may bring us back to 400008 as the first full bayswater production??!!!

cheers.
