Grainy footage around 1966 of 6V53 Commer to show cab height, riding on 900 tyres.
Originally was a TS3 with Commer's 6-speed box.
Fitted a slightly slower diff to make better use of the GM's power band. (optional mod)
Twin Commer oil bath filters ditched in favour of large single paper element unit.(standard mod)
Twin fuel tanks (standard mod) to keep the fuel cooler.
Pulled hard for a lot of years then dropped a valve.

Think I've got the year wrong, probably around 1970.
Likely bought new back in 66-67?
Bloody long time ago and the road into Gin Gin sure doesn't look like that anymore.

Just got off the phone with previous owner.
He brought the truck new from " possibly Clayton something" in Melbourne. It had single headlights with a Cummins V8 185 & was Commer badged.
About 3 years later it was tipping a load & the driver was poking at the stuck material in the trailer when it fell on its left side.
From his memory the whole replacement cab came from Wagga, doors & all.
He remembers that on an early run with the new cab he was pulled up & fined for not having his name on the side of the truck. He then got the whole truck sign written on both sides.
The repowering with the UD two stroke was several years later & was never finished.

Is he sure about the year?
When I looked at buying a Commer in 71, only choice they offered me was the TS3 or the V8 Petrol Dodge.
Still no joy waiting for the TS4 so bought an AEC instead. :'(

Cro, I cant help with any advice on the UD5, big brother fitted one to his MAN went like a rocket, sounded like it went like a rocket too... the rear main or an oil plug in the bell housing let go on to the clutch, enough to make it a POS, so he finished the contract and sold it. Motor came from MacQuarie Industries in Coburg.

I think Melon might be the man to talk to about these JAP screamers. and buy some ear plugs.

Love your story.

Cunning, life was meant to be a mystery.

Jeffo, I agree, maybe he has got his dates wrong. But he seemed to spit the date out without hesitation. I have asked him about this in different conversation more than twice so i'm not going to ask him again.

Sarge, Really looking forward to getting this thing running ear plugs or not. Sent Mellon a pm.

Picks of cab mounts.
