I would say it's the wire from the coil to distributor if it's coming out of the middle of the coil.

If you are talking about the small red wire going to "something" on the block I would guess it is an antistatic condensor to stop ignition noise in the radio (either UHF or music). Should make no difference to the operation of the vehicle if you leave it or take it off but it must have been put there for a reason.

Paul,
Best to sleeve the bores (master and slaves) with stainless steel. Then, the seals will never cut up as they move across the rust in the old cast bores.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Sleeving the cylinders would appear to me to be a relatively simple job for a machine shop but some people do not know how, or simply do not want to do it.
It is important to shop around as prices vary widely.
I am told that a brake place in Ferntree Gully are the best, and somebody on the forum said a brake place in Adelaide sells new ones cheaper than re-sleeving your old ones.

Hi Pauley I had a great deal of trouble with my brakes, in the end I packed all my bits up. Four brake drums, all the shoes. master cylinder, the four wheel cylinders. I live in Ferntree Gully. Sent it to Adelaide, to place called Power Brakes. Cost to get it there $140.00. Great people to deal with on the phone even before they new they had the job. There was a few guys on the Forum that were very happy with them also. Cheers Fill
