i feel your pain i had a neuss (a late 1979 model 1830B that quickly had a schwitzer turbo fitted only a few months into the life of the truck ..she was a flier (serious!)that truck went around the clock many times altho she did go through a few headgaskets (i was using after market ones)the factory German made parts were uber expensive but dam good :-X anyway the worst that ever happened was she cracked a sleeve (my own fault as i was driving her for months with a bad radiator on Interstate trips) i changed the sleeve head gasket and decided to fit a set of rings on the side of the road at Casino ... ive had perkins and a perkins phaser acco previously and id say without a doubt the Neuss is just as reliable and with the turbo goes quite well ...also if you can? repair the engine yourself using after market parts you wont be spending a fortune ..

TAKE IT TO THE DUMP.

So not helpful...he has to get it there somehow first, we are trying to figure out how, not smartarse around.

The header is probably best for Scrap if you go that option...if you feel like another long trip take it to Neil's Parts near Adelaide, they specialize in that stuff ;) :P

Good Luck!!! :) ;) :D ;D ;D 8-) :P

Well the above truck just sold for $15 500. It was a 1975 model so yours should be worth fixing

G'day all first post here but thought I would chime in on this one. If you find a header motor you will have to put your injector pump on, headers are set up for idle or flat out and nothing inbetween. I have done a couple of swaps of this nature and learnt the hard way on the first one.
If you are looking for 6354.4 then massey ferg 3342 header ran them 542 ran a 6354.2.

welcome indianman that all makes sense to me I would think even if you had a tractor motor you would have to change the injector pump they all seem to be set for what ever application the motor was going into. I wonder what else they used the neuss motors in ? and if kleener was to go header option if the tyres are any good there's always people advertising for second hand tractor tyres I wouldn't mind betting that old mate would get out of this for under a grand it's all just a guess though.

The header route has its good points - except I am on the soggy north coast of NSW, defunct headers are not under every tree, and the ones that are are truly defunct and probably had several floods over em. I am not afraid of travel, but as my truck is in dry dock with a blown motor, thats a small problem also :( At this stage I am leaming to either parting the old girl out, or buying a runner and parting it out after I have snavelled the go bits... Or maybe getting a 1950 or such with a rusty cab and swapping... would like some more load capacity.
